Every Yuma car accident resulting in the death of a young person saddens us, as did the death of a 19-year-old Yuma man in an accident on February 27, according to KSWT13. The crash occurred just before 8:00 pm in the desert area in Yuma near Avenue D, at the end of County 12th Street. A young man, age unidentified, from Somerton was driving a Jeep Cherokee through the desert when his vehicle collided with an ATV ridden by local 19-year-old in what appears to have been a head-on collision.

No injuries were reported for the driver of the Jeep Cherokee, but the ATV driver died at the hospital from extensive chest and head injuries suffered during the crash. This is such a tragic event. We are thinking about the ATV driver and his family.

By Auto Accident Lawyer on August 4, 2011 - No comments

atv-521159ATV are small vehicles that are either built for single or dual-person riding that are intended for off-road recreational courses or wide land travel. They are not legal to use on the streets in the United States and riders and owners are required to adhere to laws and regulations regarding ATV vehicles and also usage of proper safety equipments. In 1985 to 2009, there are 131,900 estimated number of emergency-room treated injuries related to ATV and there are 376 reported deaths.

(AZFamily) In Peoria, a 20-year old man was killed in an ATV accident last Thursday evening while doing his duties at a ranch. The police reported that he died from the sustained injuries that were brought upon by the ATV accident that occurred near Vistancia Boulevard and Loop 303 freeway.

In the initial investigation, the ATV had hit a cable barrier that extended across the cattle guard that was meant to prevent traffic from going down the dirt road. One witness saw the driver cross Vistancia boulevard and the next thing that he saw was the driver was lying down the dirt road. In addition, the ATV, continued to run down the dirt road before rolling down a mound.

Wearing a helmet when riding ATVs is known to lessen the risk of fatalities at about 42% and they have decreased the risk of non-fatal head injury at about 64%. It is important to adhere to ATV’s laws and regulation about proper safety equipments when handling this kind of vehicle.

Two Injured in ATV Accident Near Lake Pleasant

By Auto Accident Lawyer on January 17, 2011 - No comments

TucsonCitizen.com reports that on Saturday, January 1, a woman and a man were injured in a crash involving an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) near Lake Pleasant. According to officials, the accident occurred at about 3:30 p.m.

At this time, little details about the Arizona ATV accident are known. Officials state the couple was riding approximately 12 miles north of the lake when they lost control of the ATV while driving down an embankment. Another person on a different ATV was following the pair and called for help. The couple was flown to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries, which are reported to be non-life threatening. It is not known if either was wearing a helmet.

There are an estimated 9.2 million ATVs in the United States, which is a significant increase from 1985, when there were just 400,000 ATVs. The weight of all-terrain vehicles has also changed: in the 1980s, the typical ATV weighed just 250 pounds and had little horsepower. These days, the vehicles weigh much more and can reach speeds of over 100 mph.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), there have been 9,633 ATV-related fatalities reported between 1982 and 2008. 2006 had the highest number of fatalities reported, with 832 ATV-related deaths occurring. Since 1982, Arizona has reported 223 ATV-related fatalities. Unfortunately, many ATV-related deaths are often young children—the CPSC reports that about 27 percent of total fatalities since 1982 have been children younger than 16-years-old, and about 11 percent of total deaths were children younger than 12-years-old. Additionally, on average, since 2000 there have been approximately 100,00 ATV-related injuries in the U.S. every year, with 135,100 occurring in 2008, the most recent year statistics are available.

If a person riding an ATV isn’t cautious, isn’t wearing a helmet, or if the pathway isn’t clearly marked that warns riders of a turn or an embankment, or if an all-terrain vehicle malfunctions, an Arizona ATV crash can occur. Often, ATV accidents result in serious brain and spine injuries, which can be devastating.
