No reports have been issued indicating whether the driver will be cited for failure to yield, and the status of the cyclist is unknown.

As Yuma bicycle collision attorneys with a great deal of experience in dealing with local accident victims, we were dismayed to hear the news on KSWT 13 of a severe accident involving a bicycle. The accident was caused by a vehicle striking a bicycle rider as it made a right turn at the corner of 15th Street and 4th Avenue. The bicyclist was riding on the sidewalk and crossed the street just as the car made the turn around the corner. The driver of the car told police that she did not see the bicycle rider and that she had looked only to the left for cars before making the turn. The cyclist was taken to the hospital in an ambulance with serious injuries to his leg. We hope that the bicycle rider is recovering well.

The crash occurred near the end of the morning commute, close to the intersection of Scottsdale Road and East McDonald Road, when the bicycle and the car collided. The right lane moving southbound was blocked for a period of time. No official word has been released on the condition of the cyclist or whether any injuries or damage occurred.
What Causes Scottsdale Car Accidents with Bicycles?
Scottsdale car accidents with bicycles have become more commonplace in the past several years as rising gas prices and an increasing trend towards a healthier, greener Arizona have prompted citizens to switch from cars to bicycles as their main method of transportation. But drivers are still getting used to sharing the road with the growing number of cyclists. According to the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT), many bicycle-car collisions occur due to a lack of sharing space on the road. Additional factors include cyclists and drivers not being aware of their surroundings, and drivers going over the speed limit. In 2010, ADOT reported 1,914 car collisions involving cyclists, which included 1,583 injuries and 19 deaths.
