Four people were injured in an Arizona car accident involving two SUVs, one of which caught fire. According to ABC 15, the fiery injury accident occurred on Loop 303 near Glendale Avenue in Goodyear, Arizona. One of the SUVs reportedly swerved into oncoming traffic. Two victims of the crash were airlifted to nearby hospitals and the other two were taken by ambulance. It appears that none of the injuries were life-threatening. Authorities have not stated if either driver will be cited for the crash.
According to Arizona Statute 28-731: “If a highway is divided into two roadways by leaving an intervening space or by a physical barrier or clearly indicated dividing section constructed to impede vehicular traffic, a person shall drive a vehicle only on the right-hand roadway and shall not drive a vehicle over, across or within the dividing space, barrier or section.”
Drivers who veer into oncoming traffic may be held liable for the damages they cause. Negligent drivers responsible for head-on collisions may be held liable for their actions if the injured victim chooses to file a personal injury claim. Damages that may be covered by a successful civil lawsuit include medical bills, past and future suffering, lost wages and cost of rehabilitative treatment such as physical therapy and chiropractic care.

A woman was seriously injured in a Scottsdale car accident involving a Ford SUV rollover. According to a news report, the Arizona rollover accident occurred at the intersection of Carefree Highway and Scottsdale Road. For unknown reasons a silver Pontiac sedan collided with a black Ford SUV at the intersection. The driver of the Pontiac sustained life-threatening injuries. The SUV’s driver and her young daughter refused medical attention at the scene of the crash. Investigators are still investigating the cause of the accident.
According to the Arizona 2009 Crash Facts Report, seven people were killed and 1,548 were injured in Scottsdale car accidents. During that same year, there were 306 fatalities and 32,204 injuries reported as a result of Maricopa County car accidents.
Whenever an injury accident involves an SUV rollover, it must be determined if the vehicle’s design contributed to the injuries suffered. SUVs often have a high center of gravity and narrower track width, which makes them more prone to rolling over. Rollover accidents account for nearly 25 percent of all fatal traffic accidents in the United States, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
